Title: SQLite module for Squirrel.

Well, as promised (http://forum.vc-mp.org/?topic=408.msg2696#msg2696) I looked into the current SQLite module to see if I can add proper error reporting. Because a silent error doesn't really help anyone. Neither the script-writer or the people trying to help here on the forum. Try to make a mistake in the query syntax or try to break it somehow so that I know it's working properly. Please expect some bugs because I did this tonight as a fun project and I haven't done much testing with it.

Note: Arguments marked with * the beginning are required while the rest are optional. On the left is their data type. At the beginning of the function name between [...] is the return type and it's value.

Note: Most of these functions throw exceptions in case of errors. That's why you should use them in try/catch blocks if you wish to know when they fail. Otherwise you'll get a nice error message detailing the cause of the failure along with the function and line where that happened.

You can also use the provided functions to manually extract the error codes and get the message manually.

The source can be downloaded here (#post_). In order to use it you'll need the original module and all you need to do is overwrite the files in the original module with the ones provided in this source and then compile. For any issues please post here and I'll gladly look into it.

This isn't meant to replace the original. This is just a small upgrade to add some features that would help the script-writer find bugs in their code much more easily.



The source along with binaries are now available here (https://github.com/iSLC/VCMP-SQLite/releases). The binaries can be found in the sub-folder /bin/ for all supported platforms (Windows x32/x64 and Linux x32/x64). The binaries were compiled using GCC 4.9.2 on all platforms and architectures. The source is also available in the same archive.

SIDE-NOTE: In case your scripts end up being executed multiple times then add the sqlite module before the squirrel module in server.cfg.

So you finally finished it SLC, it seems to be making database working abit more friendly but it will take some time to get used to it.

It's the same thing. Only the function names are different to avoid conflicts. And whenever there's an error in the query or passing the wrong parameters, the functions will throw an exception to. If you don't catch that exception in a try catch block then you'll get a nice message explaining why that error was thrown and the line number and function that caused that.

What's changed:

Only Windows binaries at the moment. I'm currently setting a VM to build Linux binaries as well. Should be available by tonight if everything goes smoothly.

As a bonus to anyone trying to use the module and likes how PHP allows you to easily iterate results. I decided to share a small wrapper for the module functionality. I had it sitting around and I know how much it sucks to have to work with indexes whenever you want your values.

The wrapper from file "Database.nut" depends on another file called "Message.nut". Both files can be found in separate posts after this because I'm limited to the number of characters I can use in a single post.

Linux binaries (https://github.com/iSLC/VCMP-SQLite/releases) are also available now. They were compiled using fairly new compilers so let me know if you have any issues on older systems.

Map editor won't work in the new version because it still uses server side textdraws. So, that's not a reason to update :D
Though, I would request @SLC to keep both the versions, updated one and outdated one :D

For those that use the official plugin and wish to migrate to this plugin without replacing every function in their code. Adding the following code to be executed before anything else (I.e. the top of the first executed script) should be enough to have something working:

ConnectSQL <- SQLite_Open;
DisconnectSQL <- SQLite_Close;
QuerySQL <- SQLite_Query;
GetSQLNextRow <- SQLite_NextRow;
GetSQLColumnCount <- SQLite_ColumnCount;
GetSQLColumnData <- SQLite_ColumnData;
FreeSQLQuery <- SQLite_Release;
escapeSQLString <- SQLite_Escape;

Same goes the other way around by reversing the function names. Unless you've used functions specific to this plugin.

Fixed an issue with platform identification since the SDK header now uses INT32_MAX which requires the C++11 header <stdint.h> thus forcing me to enable C++11 making the previous compile-time platform identification that only checked against the WIN32 macro to not work anymore. Now it checks for both 'WIN32' and '_WIN32'.

Binaries will be available within an hour.

Updated the plugin to be fully compatible with the official plugin without any workarounds. Also updated the SQLite version to the latest version available (3.15.1). The official plugin still uses a version from more than 2 years ago (3.8.6). So there could be a chance that some things changed in newer versions of SQLite. But I doubt it's something to break any compatibility.

The source and binaries have been moved to Github (https://github.com/iSLC/VCMP-SQLite/releases) now.

As a warning to the people that still use the official plugin. It seems that it statically links with version 3.0.4 stable of Squirrel (link (https://bitbucket.org/stormeus/0.4-sqlite/src/a4305328c110fbfb06aa933d91b45510064a4f09/04SQLite/squirrel/squirrel.h?at=master&fileviewer=file-view-default#squirrel.h-184)). Which potentially introduces several issues:

Issue #1: Breaks the "one definition" rule of C++. And this is even worse in this case because of issue #2.

Issue #2: The main Squirrel plugin is using version 3.1 stable of Squirrel (link (https://bitbucket.org/stormeus/0.4-squirrel/src/a1e803fee8807cf21139c1809f8800da73f32504/squirrel/squirrel.h?at=newapi&fileviewer=file-view-default#squirrel.h-64)). Which could potentially introduce data corruption if the newer Squirrel version contains changes in its internal data structures.

These two issues combined become an even worse issue since the SQLite plugin creates instances of it's own (due to the static linking) which then have to be managed by the Squirrel plugin. Again, this could lead to some nasty issues.

I would suggest people to take a few moments and think if it's worth making the switch.
