Title: DDoS
Post by: Striker on Feb 23, 2016, 12:56 PM
Well, i've heard many VPS being, DDoS! for servers, and forum, but I just real want to know that is it possible to DDoS, a normal local host computers SERVER? o.0 and CRASH it?
since 0.3z PAWN servers were able to be crashed. but still i'm confused with SQL, is it possible to DDoS a local host server? is their anything we could do to save our local host server?

Yes, it is possible. I do not know if it is possible to defend himself, but I think not.

I never got my server DDoS'd nor I ever heard of any server being DDoS'd in 0.4
Dunno, it would protect you or not, but someone told me to use this if you get many DDoS attacks:-

Sure? Had 12 players and someone DDoS'ed EG a day ago and caused us to timeout and eventually crash the server. It happened later as well that alot of players timed out and had pings like 1k.

So, is their any basic solution ? can't VCMP provide us security ?

Sorry, but i'm really kinda afraid of DDoS, can it damage PC much than VPS? is it really harmful, for Computers, and net?? how to fight against it?

A DoS attack is typically one person with a flooding program that can easily be stopped by a decent firewall configuration.

A DDoS attack is an entire network of people flooding your server that can't easily be mitigated without a lot of money.

This isn't an issue limited to VC:MP. As a matter of fact, securing against denial of service (DoS) attacks and distribute DoS (DDoS) is completely impossible for us to "fix" in our server. You, the server owner, are responsible for it at the network level. This is why you virtually never see VRocker's servers go down — he has aggressive firewall policies to prevent this kind of thing.

Also, I highly doubt anyone in this community has the money or resources to mount an actual DDoS attack. In probably >99% of cases it's just one person, which makes it a DoS (NOT a DDoS) and means your VPS or your server host has bad firewall policies.

A DoS attack causes no permanent damage to your computer or network. All it does is temporarily prevent your server from being accessed because it can't handle all the packets being sent to it.

@Stormeus Everyone seems to make that mistake. I can't remember how many videos on YT titled "DDoS" that attack from one machine and then try to access the attacked service from the same machine and be like "see? no work!". And I'm like: well no sh!t. how can it work if your machine is busy flooding the target you dumb f*.

Even thou turning my Firewall on blocks my VCMP server to be hosted -_- what can, I do with it?

@Doom_Kill3R so, how did you actually fixed it, ._. I guess you are taking Darke's host.

Linux has a built-in firewall system called iptables.

Windows has an inferior firewall system to be honest but you could try playing with Windows Firewall.

As far as I know, DDoS can't crash a server. It uses up your server's network bandwith and the server can't communicate with client. And I know 0.3 Pawn server crash is a BOF(buffer over flow) vulnerability.
