The chat in this multiplayer is built in.
There is no GUI chat
Technically just text
Your issue is probable due to nothing is going on in the server[tip system, players dieing, etc]
If i am correct as Cena said. Press the "T" Key on your keyboard then type "Hello" Or whatever the text you want to see.
If you do not have a chat then you must describe what you did to remove it as I do not know how to do that, and would like to know :P

Try re-installing your Client....
That can be a language problem.
AbuSager, try pressing F7 and see the chat, and try changing your language to English.
