Title: Current VCMP projects
Post by: Mötley on Oct 17, 2016, 02:07 PM
I would like to attract the attention of all of those who are currently working on servers/projects in VCMP,
And or if you are helping out someone else feel free to mention it.

I will go first, Those might remember that I had left [LU] due to the community, Hackers, Developers etc, Sadly I returned due to Server count, I managed to help a server owner that goes by the alias 'Theremin', after a hard update we eventually upgraded the server. We attracted a player base until an individual came by crashing any player that joins that server, I was reminded why I left in the first place.

I wanted to fully return to VCMP, This is a very stable and secure multi-player.

I have started off from scratch, I wanted something new, The server is currently a very well death-match that is in an Alpha build. The server is very interesting and will be more than just a death-match in time. I look forward to updating a server that wont receive terrible attacks.

I hope to hear something interesting ;)

I'm working on a cross between RP and DM with awesome features you will not dream about.
:edit: Actually it's more towards the Fantasy|Dream side. Kind of like DDRP but with different features of course.

To be honest I can't deny the above post totally caught my interest, looking forward for more info soon. 8)

As for myself, I'm working on my personal project at a snail's pace, I don't wanna disclose too much at the moment, hopefully it will be a surprise. The server will be based on a VC mod, The progress is yet very little, I'm currently focusing on converting this mod, I haven't reached the scripting part yet, but I have half an idea on what the gamemode may be. That's all I can say as of now. :)

Me and @Woodland are working on a project, it's not even 5% completed(woodland is going to kill me now) since I started it and I'm very lazy to script it up, its a kind of, ummm, DM + RPG?

I wanted to work on a game-mode in C++ and hoping that I would remove the need for commands because they tend to clutter the code (especially in C++) by using GUIs and streams but when i started to use the GUIs in VC:MP I realized what a f*ed up implementation they've done. I'd rather slit my throat and bleed out than to touch that sh!t again. So yeah, long story short: F* you VC:MP. You ain't worth it :)

I've been waiting to do this project long before GUI appeared but waited for GUI because it makes the implementation cleaner. The client side scripting turned out to be absolute sh!t and now I guess it'll stay like that forever.

Unfortunately, I can't continue for a moment on the project because VirtualKiller spilled water near the power button and now it's refusing to open.

I'll try to get it fixed as soon as possible ان شاء الله.

Yes if allowed and not anymore because its useless. I also waited for alot of shit in GUI but doesn't turn out as expected. Crashes and limitations aren't even giving the client-side power. A _mem can't provide privacy but that's not the only thing. Can't even send data other than strings, integers, floats and booleans or bytes that's a big limitation and I mean seriously worthless.

Making strings long as hell then doing different split shit on client is just pain.

Long story short, I'd say your question is invalid.

Pretty much. But it's rather late now.

You're not considering the fact that the devs have to do a lot more than just get a good scripting interface. If you had someone specialized for making something  then obviously they will do it better than someone who has to make a lot of stuff.

I want you to make exactly what VCMP makes but in a better implementation. This is what I meant by my question.

You can't do exactly what they do and do better because then you wouldn't be doing what they did to get that implementation in the first place. But yeah, challenge accepted. Unfortunately, you and I have no saying in this. Might as well just drop the subject before going further into off-ropic.

New feature: Client side timers
(https://forum.vc-mp.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2Fperc7vU.jpg&hash=cf13ac099ccd0185782d7b105d27d7c59056f21a)
(bottom right of screen)

p.s. I got my PC back :)

Also, I'm trying to keep as much stuff client side as possible to
1. Reduce the risk of server crashing
2. Reduce lag

For example, /goto will send a signal to the client to teleport to this player, and everything else (timers, teleporting) is handled by the client.

Also, if you're doing anything suspicious with the client-side, the server will immediately kick you. For example, you're trying to register when you are already registered.

1. Reduce risk of server crashing, increase risk of client crashing
2. Reduce lag.. imaginary lag that is and have more pressure on client

Good job, good job! :D

1. Well 1 player crash is better than all players crash + need to restart server
2. What? No. Anyways the client doesn't do much heavy stuff, I've tried to keep it as lag free as possible (example: no heavy functions in scriptprocess)

Care about the VCMP players too? Some can't manage to get a decent FPS too. How would there CPU/GPU process the GUIs?

Well, all the timers are processed per frame, not per tick, and about 50 to 100 instructions are literally nothing even for a 6-year-old PC.

Yeah and I get 10 fps for drawing a notification gui label on a quadcore. Just agree and deal with the truth.

Then it's your fault for using a 10 year old pc.

You're most likely creating the GUI element on each frame and then destroying it. I've seen someone else doing the same but with fonts.

50% or maybe even 90% of vc-mp players own 10-year-old-pc, just turn on a rain in any popular server and look at the chat.
