Recently, I downloaded the 0.4 Client and tried to play a server. But when I try to connect to a server, after some time this happens:

Any help?
Try using this modified browser and tell me what it says, I'm going to need more info:

Make sure that you have not installed VC:MP to the same directory as GTA:VC, and that your installation of XP is on at least Service Pack 3.

The same thing happens, the download fails.
Also, I have not installed it to the VC folder and I'm running Service Pack 3.
Unfortunately I'm going to have to set this aside to look at later since I need to sleep. Moving this to acknowledged bugs since this keeps cropping up and needs to be resolved.
Umm... Any help?
You could try going into C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\Local\Vice City Multiplayer (assuming you kept the default install dir -- if not, try that) and deleting all the 04rel* folders and any folder beginning with an underscore. However I don't think that'll fix this issue, and I'm still working on fixing it in the browser.
Yes, that didn't do it.
The only thing different I notice is, the download fails instantly. Is this because of my bad net?

The update server has technical diffeculties, so it's not your net :)
I still can't play any servers :(.
What to do?
Yesterday someone sent me a link which is an .exe file that installs 04rel000 and 04rel001 and 04rel002 (I assume these are updates?) and it worked for me, but I won't be stupid and put the link here. Can any staff member reply to this so I can PM them the file so that he could check it (why it solves the problem and if it's infected or not).
fixed now.
I decided to give it a try again today and it seemed to work fine- it went up to 75% and then the usual 'failed to download' message came.
*bump*
Any reply? I just visited the forums and I still can't get it working...
EDIT: It seems to work again, thanks to all who helped! :)
